It is with deep sorrow that we announce that Amos Bairoch, creator of Swiss-Prot, PROSITE, ENZYME, Expasy, neXtProt and Cellosaurus, has passed away. Amos was a visionary who shaped the field of bioinformatics.

There are around a billion cases of seasonal influenza (flu) annually, including 3–5 million cases of severe illness. The WHO uses real-time tracking of influenza lineage evolution by Nextstrain to make recommendations.
