| Taxonomy: | Bacteria; Proteobacteria; Gammaproteobacteria; Enterobacteriales; Enterobacteriaceae; Salmonella (TaxID: 28901) [NEWT/ NCBI] |
| Description: | Salmonella enterica serovar Choleraesuis is a highly invasive serovar among non-typhoidal Salmonella. It occasionally infects humans, usually causing sepsis or extra-intestinal focal infections. It also causes swine paratyphoid, with clinical manifestations of enterocolitis and septicemia. Infections due to S.cholerasuis are particularly difficult to treat because of the emergence of resistance to multiple antimicrobial agents. S.cholerasuis has 151 pseudogenes. |
