Comments

FUNCTION: This protein may play a central role in corneal transparency. It represents about 50 percent of the corneal epithelial soluble proteins. In the cornea, this enzyme may help in absorbing the damaging UV-B, as well as detoxicating the UV-induced peroxidic aldehydes.
FUNCTION: This protein preferentially oxidizes aromatic aldehyde substrates.
CATALYTIC ACTIVITY: An aldehyde + NAD(P)⁺ + H₂O = an acid + NAD(P)H.
SUBUNIT: Homodimer (By similarity).
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cytoplasm (By similarity).
SIMILARITY: Belongs to the aldehyde dehydrogenase family.
