Description:	Silicibacter pomeroyi is a member of the marine Roseobacter clade whose relatives comprise 10-20% of coastal and oceanic mixed-layer bacterioplankton. It relies on a lithoheterotrophic strategy that uses inorganic compounds to supplement heterotrophy and it harbors genes advantageous for associations with plankton and suspended particles. Silicibacter pomeroyi has a physiology distinct from that of marine oligotrophs.
