| HAMAP: Salmonella paratyphi A complete proteome |
| Species code: | SALPA |
| Taxonomy: | Bacteria; Proteobacteria; Gammaproteobacteria; Enterobacteriales; Enterobacteriaceae; Salmonella (TaxID: 54388) [NEWT/ NCBI] |
| Description: | Salmonella enterica serovar Paratyphi A is the second most prevalent cause of typhoid after S.enterica serovar Typhi. It is responsible for at least one third of cases in southern and eastern Asia. Paratyphi A causes a milder disease than Typhi but has been particularly virulent in some outbreaks. Typhi and Paratyphi A are members of different O antigen serogroups, D1 and A. The genome of Paratyphi A is smaller than the genomes of the two Typhi genomes, mainly because it has fewer prophages or other mobile elements. There are 173 peudogenes in Paratyphi A, usually caused by single-base mutations that lead to a frameshift or a stop codon. |
