HAMAP: Rhizobium sp. (strain NGR234) complete proteome

General information

Species:  Rhizobium sp. (strain NGR234)
Species code: RHISN
Taxonomy: Bacteria; Proteobacteria; Alphaproteobacteria; Rhizobiales; Rhizobiaceae; Rhizobium/Agrobacterium group; Rhizobium (TaxID: 394) [NEWT/ NCBI]
Description: Gram-negative nitrogen-fixing bacteria living in soil. Unlike most rhizobia that are extensively studied, strain NGR234 has the ability to initiate nodule formation on the roots of more than 112 plant genera including the non-legume Parasponia andersonii, and to fix nitrogen in symbiosis with plants that form determinate- or indeterminate-type of nodules. It encodes a very large selection of secretion systems, and it seems likely that the vast richness of secretory systems might be a major key to the broad host range (modified from PubMed 19376903).
Properties: Presence of flagella: Yes
Human pathogen: No
Interaction: Plant symbiont
Number of membranes: 2
Number of inteins:0
Statistics: Number of RHISN entries in the UniProt Knowledgebase: 6274 (658 in UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot + 5616 in UniProtKB/TrEMBL)
