| HAMAP: Pseudomonas mendocina (strain ymp) complete proteome |
| Species code: | PSEMY |
| Taxonomy: | Bacteria; Proteobacteria; Gammaproteobacteria; Pseudomonadales; Pseudomonadaceae; Pseudomonas (TaxID: 399739) [NEWT/ NCBI] |
| Description: | Bacteria belonging to the Pseudomonas group are common inhabitants of soil and water which can also be found on the surfaces of plants and animals. They are are found in nature in a biofilm or in planktonic form. Pseudomonas are renowned for their metabolic versatility as they can grow under a variety of growth conditions and do not need any organic growth factors. Typically they are plant pathogens, although several strains are pathogenic to humans. P.mendocina strain ymp, a strict aerobe, is a pentachlorophenol (PCP)-degrading bacterium isolated from PCP-contaminated soil. It is able to act as a bioremediation agent without the accumulation of inhibitory toxic compounds. On very rare occasions it has been recovered as a human pathogen (adapted from http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?Db=genomeprj&cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=17457). |
