| Species code: | PELUB |
| Taxonomy: | Bacteria; Proteobacteria; Alphaproteobacteria; Rickettsiales; SAR11 cluster; Candidatus Pelagibacter (TaxID: 335992) [NEWT/ NCBI] |
| Description: | Pelagibacter ubique belongs to the SAR11 clade, which consists of small, heterotrophic marine alpha-proteobacteria that live in the oceans, where they make up about 25% of all microbial cells. P.ubique has the smallest genome among free-living microorganisms. It has complete biosynthetic pathways for all 20 amino acids. It has no pseudogenes, extrachromosomal elements, transposons, introns or inteins. There is no evidence of DNA originating from recent horizontal transfer events. |
