Description:	Mycobacterium MCS was isolated from soil in Libby, Montana, USA, the site of a former lumber and plywood mill. The soil is contaminated by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), and MCS is one of several indigenous mycobacteria isolated from this site that are able to degrade high molecular weight PAH including benzo(a)pyrene and pyrene. It is a long rod, fast growing mycobacterium able to be used in soil bioremediation.
