ENZYME

ENZYME entry: EC 3.4.17.23

Accepted Name
angiotensin-converting enzyme 2
Alternative Name(s)
ACE2
angiotensin converting enzyme 2
angiotensin converting enzyme-2
Reaction catalysed
angiotensin II + H2O <=> angiotensin-(1-7) + L-phenylalanine
Comment(s)
  • A transmembrane glycoprotein with an extracellular catalytic domain.
  • Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 functions as a carboxypeptidase, cleaving a single C-terminal residue from a distinct range of substrates.
  • Catalytic efficiency is 400-fold higher with angiotensin II (1-8) as a substrate than with angiotensin I (1-10).
  • Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 also efficiently hydrolyzes des- Arg(9)-bradykinin, but it does not hydrolyze bradykinin.
  • Belongs to peptidase family M2.
