ENZYME entry: EC 3.4.22.15

Accepted Name
cathepsin L
Reaction catalysed
Specificity close to that of papain. As compared to cathepsin B, cathepsin L exhibits higher activity toward protein substrates, but has little activity on Z-Arg-Arg-NHMec, and no peptidyl-dipeptidase activity
Comment(s)
  • A lysosomal enzyme that is readily inhibited by the diazomethane inhibitor Z-Phe-Phe-CHN2 or the epoxide inhibitor E-64.
  • Belongs to peptidase family C1.
