ENZYME entry: EC 1.14.13.7

Accepted Name
phenol 2-monooxygenase (NADPH)
Alternative Name(s)
phenol hydroxylase
phenol o-hydroxylase
Reaction catalysed
H(+) + NADPH + O2 + phenol <=> catechol + H2O + NADP(+)
Comment(s)
The enzyme from the fungus Trichosporon cutaneum has a broad substrate specificity, and has been reported to catalyze the hydroxylation of a variety of substituted phenols, such as fluoro-, chloro-, amino- and methyl-phenols and also dihydroxybenzenes. cf. EC 1.14.14.20.
